Why We March

2019 will be our third March in the Napa Valley. Our over-reaching goal is to support and guide the Napa Valley residents to work together in peaceful engagement within the democratic process toward community and progressive political action. We are aligned with the California Women’s March and along with this organization, have the following agenda when we Speak TRUTH TO POWER:

Women’s Rights

Women’s Rights are the fundamental human rights that were enshrined by the United Nations for every human being on the planet nearly 70 years ago. These rights include the right to live free from violence, slavery, and discrimination; to be educated; to own property; to vote; and to earn a fair and equal wage. This includes the reproductive right to have the choice of having an abortion.

Human Rights

Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, gender, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more.

Civil Liberties

Civil liberties are fundamental rights and freedoms protected by the Constitution of the United States. Civil liberties includes the freedom of conscience, freedom of press, freedom of religion, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, the right to security and liberty, freedom of speech, the right to privacy, the right to equal treatment under the law and due process, the right to a fair trial, and the right to life.

Social Justice

Social justice is a concept of fair and just relations between the individual and society. In the current global grassroots movements for social justice, the emphasis has been on the breaking of barriers for social mobility, the creation of safety nets and economic justice.

The day’s speakers and 40 activist and non-profit organizations represented at the March reflect these goals. Every marcher will have many opportunities to become involved in their prime area of concern at the March so that we become a stronger, more active community to affect change locally and nationally.

WHO WE ARE

WMNV is a female-led movement providing intersectional education on a range of issues. WMNV creates entry points for grassroots activists and organizers to engage with the Napa Valley community through training, outreach programs, and events.

We are 100%, volunteer-run by our Steering Committee. This dedicated group has given a great deal of their time to ensure WMNV meets its goals.
